Why it happens

The file exists but the reader could not parse it. Most often the extension does not match the actual format, or the file was truncated during a copy.

What to do

Open the file in another tool to confirm it is intact. If the extension is wrong, rename it. If it is a BIDS dataset, check that the sidecar JSON sits next to the data file.
