This is written by the people who built the software, not by a lawyer

It describes accurately what the system does. It has not been reviewed by counsel, and it is not a substitute for your own institution's assessment. If your legal or data protection office needs something in a particular form, ask and we will provide what we can.

Research software, not a medical device

Signal Studio is not certified as a medical device under the EU Medical Device Regulation, by the FDA, or by any other authority. It must not be used to make or support a clinical decision about a patient. Nothing in it has been validated for diagnosis, treatment or prognosis.

Validation figures published at eeg.studio/validation show that a card computes what it says it computes. That is a statement about arithmetic, not about clinical fitness.

Beta

The software is in public beta. It is incomplete, the pipeline file format can change between versions, and it will have bugs. Record the version you ran and archive your pipeline file if the result matters.

Licence to use

You may install and use Signal Studio, for any purpose including commercial research, at no charge. You may not redistribute the installer, sell it, or present it as your own. Full terms are in the licence agreement shown during installation.

Your account

One account per person. Organisations exist for labs; see your account.
You are responsible for what is published or posted under it, and for keeping your API tokens secret.
We may suspend an account that breaks the code of conduct, following the steps described there.

What you publish

You keep ownership of everything you publish. By publishing you grant other users permission to download, run and modify it for their own work, and you grant us permission to host and display it. Nothing is transferred to NeuraCrypt.

You confirm you have the right to publish it, that it does what its description says, and that it contains no patient data.

We review submissions before they become public and may refuse or remove one. Refusal comes with a reason.

Extensions written by other people

Extensions execute code on your machine, with your permissions. They are provided as is by their authors. We review them before approval, but review is not a guarantee, and an author can change what an extension does in a later version. Install only from sources you are willing to trust.

No warranty

The software and the site are provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that they are error-free, that results are correct for your purpose, or that the service will be available.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, NeuraCrypt is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data, or lost research time arising from use of the software or the site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Availability

There is no service level commitment. Current status and past incidents are published at eeg.studio/status.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Delaware, United States. This is the jurisdiction stated in the licence agreement shipped with the software; if NeuraCrypt is established elsewhere, that will be corrected here and there together.
